Bucket List #130: An Introvert Plans A Bachelorette Party

There are not a lot of things I am good at. Planning is pretty much at the top of that list. I am not a planner. Not in the slightest. I book flights before I even thought about what I was doing or where I was going to be sleeping that weekend. When the opportunity arose to plan my sister’s bachelorette party I was determined to make this a trip she wouldn’t forget

Bachelorette parties are supposed to be these wild weekend getaways filled with tequila, cheap wigs, and of course many stories that should never be told under any circumstances. However, that is not what my sister had in mind. Thank god!

Even though I had the advantage of planning for a “chill bride” I still stressed about making sure every detail went according to plan. You ideally only get one Bachelor/Bachelorette party in your life l, and as the planner, it is your job to make sure that everyone has a good time. Chances are the person you are planning for is going to be the one who is in charge of yours in the future.

There is an added amount of pressure when you plan a trip with someone and it doesn’t go as you wanted. I am okay with sleeping in a hostel that may or may not has been a prison at some point. I am okay with walking in a foreign city without so much as a goal destination.

My sister on the other hand is the type of person who needs the details, the itinerary and has to have things planned in advance for the most part. She also has a tendency to not make up her mind and change gears several times. I love her, of course, but imagine planning your trip around one destination only to have another place mentioned and switch gears; only then settle on the initial place you began.

The decided destination landed on Asheville, North Carolina in the middle of November. The goal was a “chill” girls’ trip filled with wine, hiking, and of course good food. Easy Peasy! Again, I have never planned a trip like this and was really wanting everyone to have a great time.

North Carolina in the fall is an absolutely beautiful sight. Living in Florida, I never get to experience the full effect of autumn. The leaves had those familiar reds, browns, oranges, and yellows we all know from movies. As a plus, I got to break out my thick sweaters and hats without the fear of dying of heatstroke.

Planning makes me stressed, but I knew how important this was for someone I care about, and that took precedence. Yes, there were moments I was stressed about being late for a reservation or when things didn’t go how I thought they would. That is just part of my wonderful personality. But I can say that no matter the minor things that didn’t go right, this was one of my favorite trips I have been on.

It was an amazing trip with an even more amazing group of women. The vibes were immaculate the entire trip and I cannot take all of the credit for that. We had the perfect number of people where we could get reservations for our party. Everyone knew each other for the most part, so the worry about if people would get along was non-existent. All and all, this was probably the less stressful group I’ve ever been on a trip with.

What I learned- is to always know who you’re planning for. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and no matter what always make sure you have a great time. It’s a party after all!
